Fives’ Digital Solutions: From Promise to Reality

Wednesday 1st December 11:30 - 12:00

Today, the promises of 4.0 industry for the primary aluminium becomes reality. Few recent applications will be detailed in this presentation.

Fives technology is present in various areas of the smelter, from carbon to reduction, allowing us to understand the links between the processes and thus to propose solutions for a smelter-wide optimization. Over the past 10 years, Fives has developed new digital products to optimize the operation costs and to meet some environmental challenges. These solutions and Fives’s implementation method allow a high level of customisation to fully cope with the user’s needs and his production philosophy. For instance, in 2021, our MIREA and SOFIA advanced sensors were selected by a customer to implement life cycle traceability of anodes and ultimately improve the net carbon consumption. SMARTCrane, an equipment monitoring solution, has now been up and running in St-Jean-de-Maurienne for 2 years. Thanks to a strong collaboration between the customer’s and Fives’s teams during its final design stage, SMARTCrane allows the stabilisation of the potline operations, hence the improvement of the metal quality and of the environmental impact. At the green anode plant and at the anode baking furnace, Amelios software brings additional functionalities for advanced process monitoring and remote analysis. Eventually, Fives Connect, an innovative customer-oriented platform, has been deployed on three sites, where a wide range of digital services and supports are accessible from one single point.
