This involved new catalyst development and also financial assessment of different pathways and processes for new and existing products. She led the work to develop and implement new BP processes for the production of vinyl acetate monomer and maleic acid hydrogenation to speciality products. She then spent three years licensing BP technology for the conversion of remote gas and benchmarking technologies for potential investment. She also worked in Intellectual Property management and competitor analysis.
Melanie has extensive experience working in certified scientific services at SERCO leading the Environmental Measurements Group at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in the UK for over seven years. Under Melanie’s leadership, the Group grew to 30 people delivering high quality, accredited, environmental monitoring and instrumentation certification services to government and industry customers worldwide. She led the Group into the new area of greenhouse gas measurement and developed new services for the waste management, petrochemical and refining sectors. This work was key to the establishment of the Centre for Carbon Measurement at NPL in 2011, by the UK’s Department of Business, Innovation and Skills.
